express build directory needs to go a folder above

I am trying out express and I am using npm and typescript. I have some npm scripts defined which allows me to run dev or do a build. However my build directory needs to go a folder above to find the html file rather than my where my ts file is located. I have attached a screenshot of the project structure and the difference between my dev version and the build version.

My tsconfig file is below

When running the dev version it works fine since from the current directory the html files is located ../public/index.html but when compiled for build, the js files is inside a dist folder and needs the path to be ../../public/index.html

You have outDir set to "outDir": "./src/dist"
Set it to ./dist

This way you will have src/server.ts and dist/server.js and both will have the same relative path to index.html (i.e. ../public/index.html)
